The Books

Behind every story, there’s another story…

Balamory was the world’s first television soap opera made for preschool children. When it was first produced, it captured the imagination of people of all ages and became iconic. From early childhood onwards, I was always searching for stories to tell, and that is where the Balamory story begins.

How it began…

(from the Preface)

The writing of this book arose from not believing everything I was told. John Jameson was a revered ancestor of mine. My family’s account of his life seemed to follow without question the version promoted by his whiskey brand. But brands are there to suit their marketing needs, and my curiosity took hold to seek out his real story… The eighteenth century, an awakening age of agricultural, industrial, and political revolutions, provided the backdrop; his contemporaries of writers and commentators gave anecdotes and travel tips; the Jacobite and United Irishmen rebellions left their mark as they erupted within John Jameson’s earshot.
